Inspiration – Madam C.J. Walker

Interesting how I discovered this source of inspiration. I am a big Queen Latifah fan, and while watching Beauty Shop, I saw the prominent displaying of Madam C.J. Walker’s portrait. I did a little digging and I compare Madam to another inspiration, Oprah. They both made their fortune in different industries, and yet, Madam C.J. Walker had the largest business owned by an African American at that time, and Oprah is the richest African American….ever.

Madam C.J. Walker is the example that the past does not determine the future. She was the first one in her family born free, from parents that were, at one point, slaves. She knew that she was meant to be more, to do more, and built a great company that provided beauty products. Just like Mary Kay, she was able to change the way things were done at the time. That is the beauty of her legacy.

Many times we let simple obstacles get in the way of our greatness. One by one, all these women are examples that all challenges can be overcome. Have faith, work hard and when you are feeling a little defeated, search for your own inspiration. Whatever you do, don’t give up, ever.
