Inspiration – Rosa Parks

Some of the women I pick are more well known than others. Rosa Parks is already a familiar name. The reason I picked her as an inspiration is not the one you may think.

Yes, she did refuse to leave her seat in the bus for a white person. Yes, that simple act did more for the ending of segregation than she might have imagined when she did it. To me the interesting thing came when I was doing research on her for my inspiration segments. I found a bit about how her relationship with fear might have been the reason why she was so fearless.

When Rosa was growing up, she was constantly fearing that the Klan would burn down her house or that she or her family would be victims of lynchings. When it was time to appeal her bus conviction, she realized that there was not a particular fear. It was more of a realization that she was not alone. That is what inspires me.

What are you afraid of today? Think about this for a minute. Once you settle on what fears you are living with, ask yourself this: are you alone in this or are there others who are feeling the same way?

Thank you for delving into the “quiet strength” of Mrs. Parks. I believe that she was not alone in the fear she faced. Also, Mrs. Parks knew she was not alone because of her faith in God. She was such a wise woman. Dignity & integrity personified.

    Peace & Blessings

Thank you Dottie. Great observations. I believe faith is the key. We are all separated by different churches. At the end of the day, most of us believe in a Supreme Being. I call it God, someone else might call it Nature, and so on. The thing to me is not so much what you call that Being, to me the thing is that if you believe, everything is possible. And Rosa Parks is a great example of that. Plus, let’s face it, the guts it took to just sit there…wow!
